COLUMBUS CELTIC DANCERS

Columbus Celtic Dancers is a nonprofit organization of adult Irish step dancers in Columbus, Ohio, who dance with Ann Richens, internationally known teacher and judge of Irish step dancing. The organization is dedicated to preserving and promoting Irish culture through the art of traditional Irish step dancing. Members attend weekly classes to learn and enjoy group and solo dancing. Dancers participate for exercise, to take part in an Irish cultural tradition, and to have fun. Some dancers also enjoy competing and performing for audiences.

Kenya’s Beat-Keepers

“Our music makes you dance, it uplifts the soul and it educates you. Coming to see Jabali Afrika, you become part of the act, because we kill that barrier between the audience and the band.” Joseck Asikoye Jabali means “rock” in Kiswahili, and this dynamic musical quartet blends authentic African music with more modern styles. The trademark sound is filled with powerful percussion and big vocal harmonies along with guitar. Their award-winning and innovative combination of traditional spirituals and rock-reggae arrangements is a pillar of world music festivals and college concerts worldwide.

a mix of jazz & Latin rhythms

This group offers a combination of traditional Latin America Folklore with a tinge of jazz, performing everything from blues to Latin rock, ranging from the playful to the passionate. Rolando Matias and his Afro-Rican Ensemble bring all jazz roads together into an intriguing mixture of risk, experimentation and history Nationally and internationally recognized, Jonathan Rodgers of The Charleston Gazette says, “If you closed your eyes for a few minutes, you might have thought you were in Havana in 1950.”

WADE BAKER JAZZ COLLABORATION

Jazz for your Saturday Brunch

The Wade Baker Jazz Collaboration was formed in October of 2009 as a means to start a new revolution in the jazz scene of Cincinnati and beyond. It is the W.B.J.C.'s goal to play an eclectic fusion of jazz, hip-hop, funk and groove music while keeping the integrity and spirit of the traditions of the jazz masters we respect so much. Most of the tunes performed live are original compositions or compositions by other band members/close friends' of band members which makes the listener's experience truly experimental, new and exclusive. In addition to playing new music, the band also performs standard jazz repertoire with more modern arrangements of the tunes, developed by members of the group. It is the W.B.J.C.'s main objective to continue the growth and development of jazz music as well as make it a more accessible vehicle for younger generations to love and appreciate truly amazing American music.

Mexican Folkloric Dance

Ballet Folklorico Imagenes Mexicanas (Folkloric Ballet with a Mexican Image) promotes the appreciation, dedication and performance of Mexican Folk Dance. The group, located in NW Ohio, is 30-members strong and have dancers of all ages and backgrounds.

Their pure-action pulse-peddling Celtic fusion spans the borders of today and tradition, stringing each percussive and alluring tone of the Bodhrán, guitar, voice, violin, and viola into a Celtic infused Folk Rock Celebration.

Cherokee recording artist Michael Jacobs is a passionate and creative musician and his skills as a songwriter, a painter with words and music, are what set him apart. His incredible blend of Native American and American “roots” music - a mixture of pop, rock, and folk - artfully fuses contemporary and traditional sounds and powerful imagery. Michael’s not interested simply in educating people about Native American culture or “Native” issues. His songs address human issues: peace, justice, suffering, the environment, relationships, and wellness. His music soothes, encourages, and challenges the listener.

Albert Castiglia is New York-born/Miami raised and of Cuban/Italian descent. He is a blues man – an outstanding vocalist and skilled guitarist. He learned to play guitar at the age of twelve and soon realized that the passions of his heart were expressed best by his music. Deborah Ramirez (South Florida Sun-Sentinel) writes, “As a bluesman, Albert Castiglia spreads more joy than he ever did as a social worker. He is reminded of this every time he sings about bad love, hard times, and overcoming adversity.”
